New Surroundings

My wife Joan and I came to Brockport in 2021 at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic. Fortunately, we stayed healthy and could fully enjoy being close to our son Nate. He graduated from SUNY Brockport a while back and stayed in the area to work. In all of our visits to see him over the years we greatly enjoyed the area. However, we are certainly learning a lot about “lake effect snow”. That said, we are pretty sure we don’t want to become snowbirds in Florida or anywhere else.

The Grand Canyon

My fantasies about explorers’ travails have a lot to do with my own experiences as a backpacker in the Southwest and on the Appalachian Trail, between the Delaware Water gap in Pennsylvania and West Point in New York. Back in the last century, my good friend Larry Frederick and I crossed the Grand Canyon twice and hiked an 8 day loop in Zion National Park. Those were just two of our many adventures together. I am so grateful to him for being a kindred spirit. In this photograph, I am in the inset photo and that’s Larry on the trail on the northern rim of the Grand Canyon.
